Review of Le Méridien Hotel Mauritius

Le Méridien Hotel Location

Newly renovated, Le Méridien Hotel Mauritius has been a wonderful surprise for a family weekend. Recently acquired by the Marriott group, this Mauritius beach resort is situated only 20 min drive from the centre of Grand Bay and is a lovely, family-friendly place to stay. It has a long sandy beach with the beautiful Indian Ocean on one side and palm trees lining the other!

Le Méridien Hotel Rooms

As a family of four with young children (1 and 4 years old), having a spacious room makes the stay that little bit more enjoyable so that we are not too much on top of each other with the luggage, baby cot and extra bed! Le Méridien Hotel Mauritius ticks the box of meeting this requirement – the room was very clean, had all regular amenities, and the beds were comfortable to accommodate all four of us. It looked like every room had a nice view

of the ocean. We took the Deluxe Ocean View Room, which we understand was the basic room but more than enough space for a family of four like ours. We had a bath and shower in our room. We would highly recommend the rooms that are near the children’s pool which is very convenient to get back and forth and allows you to relax nearby if the children are having a nap.

Le Méridien Hotel Beach, Sea & Grounds

Off onto exploring the property with the children – Le Méridien has a beautiful view of the ocean with a pier that you can access from the beach for a beautiful sunset. Although the sea is not the best for swimming, we have found that the beach was perfect for shell picking, long walks, and sunsets! It is long with white sand, and the many hotel pools provide lots of swimming opportunities. The Boat House provides opportunities to explore the sea and reef by boat and other craft. There is a nice promenade that links the different areas like the spa, gym, reception, and restaurants.

Le Méridien Hotel Kids Club/ Childcare

The Kids Club was very welcoming with a wonderful list of activities. The club caters for children from 4+ but if you have younger children, you can ask for a baby-sitter at additional cost. Our elder daughter managed to paint, dance, play and eat toasted marshmallow around a fire in the brief time we were there! It is situated near the Boat House on the left of the hotel when facing the ocean. There were many families who left their children there from morning until after dinner and it looked like there were many happy but tired children by the end of the day.

Le Méridien Hotel Activities & Facilities

The hotel has all the traditional water sport activities which you can access through the Boat House. Free activities include pedalos, kayaking, snorkelling and the glass-bottom boat to explore the life on the reef just near the hotel. You can also pay for many other activities from deep-sea fishing to catamarans. The hotel also has a luxury, spa centre that boasts a variety of body treatments and a gym for the more sport-minded guests, that is open 24/7. Our daughter donned her sega dress for the Saturday evening live sega dancers show as she always does at hotels, and she was definitely not disappointed.

Le Méridien Hotel F&B

Le Méridien Hotel has several food options including the main restaurant that offers a themed buffet in the evening. There is an exquisite, Italian restaurant near the Nirvana section called Paparazzi, and an Indian restaurant next to the beach called Kumin, which serves non-Indian food in the day. Even though dinner is served as from 7pm, you can always order food for the children earlier at the main pool restaurant. The kid’s menu has a wide range of choice for the little ones to have a balanced yet fun diet! The main buffet also offers a good choice and allows you to feed comfortably the children, even picky eaters. There was always a choice of rice, pasta, various meats, and an amazing selection of desserts, which the children will no doubt love! For us, half board at Le Méridien Hotel was certainly sufficient and not too costly whenever we wanted to eat or drink outside this. Water was always provided in the room and with every meal.

Le Méridien Hotel Customer Service

One of the main highlights for us was how friendly the staff were towards us and the children. Everyone from the cleaning team, the food and beverage team to the management team were always very polite, welcoming, and always tried to find a way to help when needed. Having such a warm welcome makes a family holiday in Mauritius even more enjoyable and relaxing! The staff all seemed very happy which we thought was a good reflection on the management team. After staying at numerous hotels in Mauritius, this really stood out.

Tips when Staying at Le Meridien Hotel with children.

Our top 5 tips when  Staying at Le Meridien Hotel with children.

  1. Choose a ground Floor Room by the kids’ pool with two beds if you are with young children.
  2. Book your glass bottom boat trip early as they are just once per day and get full.
  3. When eating at the buffet restaurant, we would advise to ask for a table on the terrace. It allows more space for the children to play around your table without disturbing other guests
  4. The baby cot provided was too small for our 17-month-old toddler. (If you are a resident on the islander, bring your own travel cot or ask for a room with two beds).
  5. Bring a pram if your children can’t handle too much walking as it takes a good 10 minutes to walk to the Kids Club to the rooms next to the shallow pool.
